The Fritsch Collection of Freshwater, Brackish and Terrestrial Algal Illustrations
was begun in 1912 by Professor F.E. Fritsch, and contains millions of illustrations of freshwater algae worldwide - a unique resource for identification.
The Collection is housed at the Freshwater Biological Association, in Cumbria.
The present curator is Elizabeth Haworth (ehaworth@fba.org.uk).
A project funded by The Pilgrim Trust digitized over 7000 images, approximately half of the Desmid section of the Fritsch Collection. Funds are being sought to complete online access.
We are always grateful for news of taxa and for reprints on algal taxonomy, especially those with new species.
